Castor Oil: beyond skin & hair

Our bodies are hard workers! They work consistently to covert the foods we eat into nutrients and energy to fuel our cells, while also flushing any toxins and excess hormones from our system. But as hard as it works, we can always give it a little help along the way.

Your body is designed with detox pathways that are in charge of processing and clearing all harmful chemicals, toxins, and waste. With this system in check we avoid the buildup of unwanted substances.

When our bodies’ detox system is working efficiently, we can produce all the hormones and neurotransmitters we need to function optimally.

However, the modern world we live in today is filled with toxins and these, coupled with chronically elevated levels of stress, can dysregulate our hormone levels. This may manifest as changes in our energy levels, complexion, and mood.

You can naturally boost your bodies’ detox pathways by feeding your body adequate amount of nutrients and reducing your levels of stress.

Additionally, this one tick can help give you an extra boost:

Castor oil is made from the castor bean seed (not the animal!) and has been traditionally used as both internal* and topical therapy. It helps boost circulation and stimulate bowel movements.

When used topically, castor oil placed over the abdomen enhances liver function, decreases inflammation, stimulates lymph flow/circulation and may be used as a treatment for constipation.

Castor oil packs applied over the liver with heat can be especially useful for those with liver or gallbladder issues as it increases bile and blood flow to help stimulate digestion and detoxification.

Additionally, topical use of castor oil may be safe to use with kids. It helps boost immunity and encourages proper digestion. You can also use it as a carrier oil for essential oils.

*There are side effects to using castor oil internally. Please consult with your doctor before trying this. I advise using it only topically.
